Group CEO foreword

The revered late statesman Nelson Mandela once likened poverty to slavery and apartheid. Tata Mandela further said “poverty is not natural” as he believed the plague was man-made. I share similar sentiments that poverty can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. It is our collective responsibility as business to restore the dignity of the black African child. It is against that backdrop that Bigtime Strategic Group has sought to live a lasting legacy across the African continent through contributing towards various noble community causes. Over the years, giving back to our surrounding communities has become an integral part of our culture as company.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility is recognised as part of our business model and remains something we endeavour to uphold. As a Group, our businesses are growing tremendously, transcending across African borders. But, one thing remains – we are passionate about understanding the key needs and contributing towards education through bursaries and school uniform. As we continue to conquer Africa, as we breed ground-breaking technologies, and as we expand, we meet a lot of needy African populations that require us to be of assistance. Our commitment is to empower these communities through educating their children.

Our firm belief is that educating a child will liberate an entire household. We are also convinced that these communities are part of our growth and from them we draw current and future employees and customers.

In 1998, together with a friend, founder and Group CEO of Bigtime, Justice Maphosa, established a company, Computer Inc. and Media Solutions that recycled printer ink cartridges for re-sale, stationery and other IT consumables. The company was doing well and also sold to government departments in large quantities. Encouraged by the success of Computer Inc. and Media Solutions, the networks he had built and experienced gained, Mr Maphosa then established Bigtime Strategic Consultants in 2007. Bigtime is on the verge of launching several companies in Zimbabwe in the next few weeks in sectors including financial services, banking, insurance, transport&logistics, events management and aviation.
